Sunroof-teleflex cable lube?

I am in the middle of doing some basic maintenance on my new 83 300D sunroof. Wouldn't close- turned out to be just some carbon on the dashboard switch. Anyway, I have a lot of the mechanism exposed and I have the MB special sliding grease for the rails, which I will use. However, I notice that the grease on the teleflex cable is gummy and needs renewal. What kind of grease do you use to grease the teleflex cable?

Rick

Don't use WD-40. I've had good experience with using white lithium grease on all parts of the sunroof.

Another hunt.

I'm in the midst of reconditioning the sunroof and all things sunroof related on my 123. I searched and would like to know a definitive answer about what to use on the teleflex cable.

I found this post while digging. White lithium? That's way to simple. If the slides take this ultra expensive super-duper paste then the teleflex cable needs something only obtainable from the mother land, with a secret handshake or something to get it.

Phtt. White lithium. Couldn't be that easy.

BTW. I did manage to secure a 6 or so oz. container of the correct slide paste.
Really nice mechanic at the MB dealer gave it to me. I had a good discussion and he offered up his personal parts cars if I needed anything for the 123. Made me smile inside that people are still nice.

Didn't even need a secret handshake.

Regards to all,

Jay Hogan

I still don't know the answer to my original question. I just swapped in a cable from a parts car that was pre-lubed. But I think you should use that gleitpaste you have on it, as long as you have an adequate supply. Do not use lithium. The cable "bearings" are made of nylon, sliding in the steel tube. Seems like the MB slippery stuff is the ticket.

Answered by the original poster from four years ago. Wow.

I don't quite have enough of the paste to lubricate everything.

I'm hoping someone will chime in with a good answer.

I have everything clean and ready to go back together, including the sunroof gearbox and a perfect used fiber gear.

The tube, teleflex cable, slides and even the wind deflector are all clean.

I still would like any input as to what to use for the teleflex and now since I'm at this point, gearbox too.

Thanks for the advice rs899, I'm shooting for reassembly tomorrow night so I'll see if anyone else has ideas.

Sincerely,

Jay Hogan

Gee, I would think 6 oz is way more than enough to lube 2 cars. It shouldn't take that much to do the cable. Anyway, I would look for something more like silcone grease for the cable if you don't jave enough of the right stuff.
