You want to use 5W40 M1 for you 617. That's what the Mobil web site recommends, and it has a CI-1 Plus rating. IMHO, 0W40 is to thin for the 61X diesels.

Thanks. I thought it may be too thin. I would use the 5w40M1 all year if I could only find it.....

I have the same problem, my car was in the shop a couple of weeks ago so I had them put in M1 5W40 (from their 55 gallon drum). When I get home next week it will be due for another change so I will have to see if I can find it again.

too light
I inadvertently used 5w30 recently on my 300D. Ended up draining out it after 2 days. Noticed blowby. If 5w30 does this, can't imagine what 0w will do.

kragen has a sale, $3.99/quart for any mobil 1 synthetic. Too bad they dont carry the new 5w40 turbo diesel. But i may get the 0w40 just because its on sale

I don't know if it's "OK" or not, the Mobil site seems to recommend 5W40 for 60X as well:
