adding a turbo to a na 79 300td

I have a 79 300 wagon and my friend has a 80 ?. his has a turbo on it and he is scraping it out so he said i could have the turbo off it. I plan on replaceing the turbo cartrage but dose anybody for see anny problems with doing this. I have hurd that the non turbo moters do not have the oil squirters for the bottom of the pistons. I also herd that they might not have forged pistons? Please let me know if this would work out or anny problems i might incure.

Thank you all
Dustin

there are many many differences between the turbo and non turbo motor. if you want a turbo motor best to sell your na motor and find a good used turbo motor.

Huckie,

U better get a Turbo ENGINE. Motors don't have turbos on them.

If U don't replace the Injection Pump (IP) with an IP with an ALDA, you won't get any more power which what I think you want. Then there is the safety equipment that keeps the engine from being overloaded by too much manifold pressure.

The NA engine is not designed to take the extra heat and pressures developed by a turbo charger.

Why don't U put your friend's entire turbo engine in your car?

The problem you'll have is that your piston rods will end up on the ground, and you'll end up on the side of the road somewhere!

The engines my look very much the same externally, but the non-turbo version's bottom-end is NOT built for the greater stresses the turbocharger will add.

You CAN bolt one on, but the results will most likely be short-lived.

actually if you sit them side by side you can see a lot of differences without taking anything off.

reinforced pan. longer crank nose. different belt set up. bigger harmonic balancer. intake and exhaust manifolds. coolant overflow tank.

i suspect the reason he doesnt want to use the entire motor is that it is broken.

you really dont want to go to all the trouble to convert it over and have it blow up on you in a few months.

if your na engine is running well, enjoy it. if you want a turbo, sell your car and buy a comparable condition turbo car. the cost difference isnt much.

Is there something wrong with his motor that you just can't have the whole thing and drop it into your car? It'd be much better in the long run.

Unless it's a 300SD, an 80 should not have a turbo.

Didn't they turbo the wagons in '81? And the sedans in '82?

Smells fishy does it?

Dustin, show us pictures of your wagon, and the engine your friend has. I'll post a pic of my 1979 300TD with a '85 turbo engine in her in return, so you can copy it.

yes

you are all correct the engine i am getting the turbo from is not running the best it has 244k on it and is not making very good noises. It is running but not good as it is a mercadise diesel though. mine is running great but i want more power. I guess i could pull the hole moter and start to rebuild it and just let it take its time. I just see these sweet cars with 3 in. exast and stuff and thought it would be easy to do with a non turbo moter. and yes this link is for real. I just had some questions. I have a moter that is just broke in and i want power. I am sorry that i want to get off the line desently but under 100 hp can be tuff sometimes. I will have pics soon. All i know is i love diesels and i will keep loveing diesels as long as i live. i have had a 87 6.9 w/ a ats that i rebilt and a 89 6.9 w/ a banks and i miss them both dearly. i love my 79 300 TD. I just want more power.

Thank you alll
Dustin

You fellows are free to avoid this thread if you believe it to be a dishonest creation.

I have no evidence of this and wish to let the OP continue with the discussion without further abuse.
