i wish i knew how to remove the shifter knob off the W126's .. their was a nice wood one in a junker at the yard i was at today.. it was zebrano with the mercedes emblem. this was in a 560SEL.. and no damn fanfare button

The knob is not removable. You remove the knob and shaft as one unit. It unthreads from the selector. However, you must get down to the base of the shaft and loosen the locknut........no easy task without a crow's foot wrench.
