Timing chain stretch 300tdt
I adjusted the valve lash this afternoon on my '85 300tdt and it was not off by much. There were 2 intake valves that were out by .001in. The #5 exaust was the worst at .008in where the book says it should be .014in. The job realy was not all that difficult with a short 14mm wrench that came stock with Toyota FJ40s in 1974. (another story all together)...
I read about checking timing chain stretch in this forum. Apparently it is possible to estimate how worn the chain is by lining up the mark on the front of the cam and seeing how far off TDC the crank is. My problem is that the only mark I can find on the cam that looks right puts the crank nowhere near TDC. I turned the crank a dozen times looking to make the crank come near TDC when the cam mark was lined up. Perhaps I have the wrong cam mark? Could someone describe it, or even better direct me to a pic. I can't imagine thet the chain is so streched that it would not even come close to TDC. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks in advance.
