How do I get this window regulator out?? Help?

I'm trying to pull a window regulator out of the front drivers side door of my 1983 300SD. The window is up all the way. The window doesn't work. How am I supposed to undo the bolt? Its way up there and theres no room for any type of wrench that I have. Also how would I slide the glass out when its up all the way? Basically the motors blown and i have to switch the reglator motor. I'm having alot of trouble. Got any tips?

I don't have a W126, but on a W123 I would disconnect the regulator from the door frame, than lower the entire unit to see if you can reach the bolt that connects the regulator to the bottom of the window. You shouldn't have to remove the glass, just prop it up inside the door until you are ready to install the regulator again.

Hammer.

You may have to "free" the regulator from the door with a hammer. If you're careful, you won't hurt the door. If you bend the regulator, well, try to bend it back, or replace it if it breaks while you're trying to straighten it out.

That said, there are some little plastic plugs in the drain holes on the motor. Take one out of the top, and make sure the ones are in place in the bottom holes. Get some NON-FLAMMABLE electric parts cleaner, and fill that motor with the cleaner. Let it sit for a few, then pull one of the plugs out of the bottom to drain the cleaner out of the motor. Repeat this procedure at least once.

Now, pull all the little plastic plugs out of their holes and squirt some sort of LIGHT all-purpose lube into each one. Apply liberally! Let things sit for a few more minutes.

O.k. it is important before you proceed any farther that YOU HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER HANDY. Don't try to roll the window down unless you have that fire bottle, right? Now, try to roll the window down. Maybe get a helper to push down on the window while you hit the switch.

If its still no-go, you can try the electric parts cleaner flush and lube thing again. Won't take long, and may save you a bunch of work.

Jay.
