Shift down or let it be ?
On my old car with manual tranny my favourite way to negate a downhill run was to shift down and let the engine take care of the breaking. Is it Ok to shift down the MB downhill (pull to S or L from D) and vice versa, shift up to D after the downhill is done on the go or am I risking any tranny damage ?

It's fine, I manually shift mine often. The notches would not be there if harm was to happen.

No problem with doing this on an autobox.
Unless you are talking about getting engine braking on long downhill sections in mountain driving, I'm not sure why you'd do it in a manual shift car. ![]() But that's just me. |
