Where to get good feeler gauge?
I want to buy the Valve Adjusting kit from diesel giant, but it lacks a set of feeler gauges....where would I find a high quality set of these? Who here has a set, what brand are they, and where did you get them, and for how much $$?
Thanks

Cool! Thanks....I'll order his kit now, and visit sears soon.... This will be my first time opening up the valve cover myself (last four adjustments have been done by dealer)
I think I may polish up the valve cover with some metal polish too.

I think I may have seen that car! I saw a dealer-plate (prestige motors) 300SD 1990-92 model (W140) in the parking lot at Lowes about 1.5 weeks ago. (I work there) Was it black? Those have the rod bender engine though, have to be careful with em'....

BTW, I was at Sams today looking for tires for my 84D. I was chkg out the BF Goodrich Touring Pro T/A. I beleive Lowes has an equivalent tire. Do you know anything about these tires?

I'd get an angled one too, I have both and it works better for adjusting valves on MBs and BMWs.

One thing I noted with the sears gauges, make sure you have the one that includes the small range that some of our valve adjustments call for.
The gauge I had, and had purchased from Sears a few years ago, did not include anything below about .18(?)mm, which made it hard to do the adjustment that called for .10mm. I ended up picking up a gauge from a local auto parts house, Lyle brand, I think, that had sufficient range.

Lowes has no automotive department or any tires. Yep, the kentwood store is where I work (part time), hmm, prestige must have a few of them then, the one I saw was black....maybe I'll go prowl their lot.
I use Michelin Destiny tires from Discount tire....I used to use the Goodyear assurance but they became unbalanced and worn around 30k, the michelins have been great, with the pro-rated warranty on the goodyears I got the whole set of 4 michelins for $137, plus I got a $50 rebate...$77 for 4 tires! ONE costs that much! I was very happy...

I like the foot long metric gauge stock as shown part way down on this page - http://www.mbzponton.org/valueadded/maintenance/valve/adjust.htm

I have an older set (2) of the BMW factory holders that hold a very short single blade (1 1/2 inches long) but at a very nice angle and very ergo to pull back out smoothly. If you are going to do just this one car and want to go all out, I woulld recommend one of these setups.

I have the MB factory feeler guage, which is a red plastic handle with slots for a feeler(about 1.5" long) at each end. This is optimum for doing valves on engines, and cheap too. I forgot the part numbers for the intake/exhaust feelers and the handle, but they are in the FSM. I got mine from Phil. I VERY highly recommend this as you don't have to mess with a mess of feelers and get 'em confused.
