Vacuum Pump Removal

Hello All,
With your help I was able to figure that my vacuum pump is weak and needs a rebuild. I am waiting for the rebuild kit so I have been searching for the way to remove the vacuum pump. I remember stumbling upon a thread that showed how to but I cannot find it now. So, can anyone help me with some instructions on how to take the vacuum pump out or does anyone know a diy article or thread that I havent found in my searching so far?

Thanks

DK

I assume it's one of your 1983 300sd's

Pretty easy. Remove the power steering belt, disconnect the vacuum line, unbolt the vacuum pump.

Clearly visible in this picture.

So there is enough room in there to remove the pump without messing around with the radiator?

Thanks

The only time I have done this was on a parts car with no radiator, but I recommend when you have it out, look at the crank sensor. These are a PITA to get at & get lots of crud buildup. Mine has a allen screw held collar retainer.

Follow these instructions:
http://diymbrepair.com/easley/Rebuild_vac_pump.htm

Make sure you build the board, you'll be glad you did.
Make sure you buy a gasket, not included in repair kit.

Do not remove the radiator or any belts. Not necessary.

I may be joining you in this repair. I drove my wife's 77 300d this morning and noticed it was low on vacuum. Where did you purchase the rebuild kit?
