Time for a sub catagory on the diesel discussion??

Hey Mr. Moderator and all:

How about splitting the diesel discussion into the typical diesel issues and a sub catagory for WVO, biodiesel, and other non-diesel fuel users. WVO issues are sometimes boring and redundant?

Just a thought....

We've discussed this in the past.

A forum can be split into so many divisions that there is no synergy anymore and people just visit for two minutes per day. A certain membership must be maintained to avoid this.

Each time a topic of WVO or Biodiesel is posted, it's on a separate thread that is quite obvious to everyone. If you're not into this topic, you simply pass the thread on by, similar to passing by a thread on an OM606 if you don't own an OM606.

I really don't see a problem with the current setup, however, I do see the benefits.

Yea, splitting it up would make it a chore for the pros to really help members out.

Especially if the problem is not wvo related but at first it seems that way. A knowledgable member might miss it.

I agree with the above comments. The sub-category would likely be neglected.

agreed. as im learning a lot myself about converting to wvo, im needing to learn even more just to understand the entire workings of diesel itself. so having it all in one place is better for all around. just skip over what you dont wanna read, if its not too much hassle.

I think it's time to lose some of those stickies at the top; it's starting to look like my refrigerator door.

At this time??

I concur that to subdivide the site further at this stage might entail risks. Did you notice that whunter used to refesh old interesting threads when it slowed down? There was even one short period when I was concerned at the lack of activity on site.
At present it is like an eat all you can meal for one price. Just take what you want and leave the rest. It also never hurts to examine this type of thing occasionally. There is a general rule out there about a critical mass being required to function with a lot of things.
As we get into more actual restoration of the 77-85 123ds in the future I expect the site to increase it's activity level. Is that perhaps tunnel vision? Questions like should I spend twenty thousand on the body. Or is it a good ideal to buy this rebuildable for twelve thousand may become common. Should be very interesting.
I welcome and am open to other viewpoints as well. My wife also claims I am not always right so you are not alone

I think there is enough posts and threads in the diesel forum. It's the largest forum based on posts. People will visit both the "Alternative fuels" and the dino diesel forums if they want- and experts will emerge for the "AF" forum. My 2 cents.

Wink Contempt prior to investigation keeps me ignorant.

.
Hello All

Before I read the posts in this thread I had already made up my mind.
I was all for a separate category for alternative fuels.
But what you guys have said makes sense to me.
That is one of the reasons I love this place.

Thanks for the wisdom.

I read this forum for both biofuel stuff and the MBZ technical, and it's obvious that there are two very different meta threads going on.

IMHO--repeatedly stressing the inclusion of the words "SVO, WVO, or biofuel in the title might be enough to keep from getting overwhelmed by the french fry set.... this is an extremely amazing and valuable resource for me--without you guys I would never have gotten this far.
