Exclamation HELP!! Electrical problem after changing out lock assembly

Help Guys!!

My 1984 300sd Just had a stuck ignition lock. And I had replaced it, using info from Diesel Giant's page.

Everything went according to plan. Except when I try to start it. The instrument panel would not light up. And when I try to start the engine. All the power goes out.

Same thing happens, when I try to use the head lights.

The problem, I think it is, Is that when i was removing the cluster assembly. I had taken out this half yellow/red wire. It touched the metal of the cluster assembly and a spark came out. And darkened the wire.

Which I believe caused a short circuit.

I tried to trouble shoot. If that was causing all the problems or if there was an issuse with the ignition plug.

When I disconnected the battery terminal and put the power back on. It was like the car reset itself. The lights on the car turned back on.

Then I disconnected the yellow/red wire.

I tried using the head lights. They were fine.

Then I put the key in the ignition. The instrument panel lights went on.

When I tried to start the engine. The power would go out agian.

Anyways guys. Do any of you guys have any ideas how to solve this problem?

I just realy want to get my car back on the road. And its just so frusterating.

Anyways thanks!!

Tony
