Not if you are just testing them.

EDIT: You can replace the shields later if you find the injectors are not the problem or you end up replacing the injectors.

Also won't hurt to double check and make sure the "ball" in the prechamber is still intact when you swap the injectors. I would imagine there might be other symptoms first, but it takes seconds to check soo...

Can the ball be seen by looking in the injector's hole?

Yes, Remove the heat shield and just shine a flash light down the hole you'll see this "tad pole" looking thing.

That looks more like water vapor, not smoke.

The hole in the 617 PC won't be that big. You can remove the glowplug to shine light into it.

EDIT: Pic of one I have from my engine.

That is a 617 PC... I looked at my old one and it has the smaller hole like yours. Guess the newer ones have a larger hole?

I like the glowplug + light tip!

The results are in. I swapped #2 and #1 injectors, the misfire stayed with #2. I warmed up the car and did a compression test.

#1) 375

#2) Wait for it...........0 (Checked 4 times. There was a little hiss when I pulled the gauge but what ever pressure there was not enough to register.)

#3) 345

#4) 360

#5) 350

So...stuck valve, hole in piston

That sucks hard... can a blown headgasket cause this? Sure hope it is a "cheap" fix... you've sure been through a lot with this whole ordeal!!

I'm guessing it's a valve. There is almost no blow by which a cracked ring or piston hole or headgasket leak would create right?

I am sorry to hear that happened. Judging from the picture you posted, I would assume your engine is eating coolant from a blown gasket. Have you noticed your coolant level going down? I would try a leak down test on that cylinder and then off with her head to know for sure...... That sucks.

Just checked the coolant. The radiator is full and the upper radiator hose is not firm (it was when the engine was warm).

Tomorrow I'll pull the valve cover and have a gander.

Next step, check your valve clearances.
