I have installed a new modulator valve for the transmission on the 1982 300D-Turbo Diesel that I rebuilt last summer. The valve was the green one-part No.126 270 26 79. What I need to know is,what size banjo fitting and what size hollow screw will I need. Also at what pressure should the valve be set, and at what RPM..
The car runs good, but sometimes the trans will 'flair'(engine races)between 2nd and 3rd gears and sometimes between 3rd and 4th. After getting into gear there is no slippage... All help will be appreciated. Bill Lewallen; Lexington,Ky. Home of The Rolex Three Day Event... |

From what I understand you need to look up the pressure in a TDM based on you transmission serial number. I saved this from another list.

Inquires also may be sent via > e-mail to classic-parts@mbusa.com." That was from > Autoweek December 18th, 2000. > All for your information! a 722.303 transmission If it's the original modulator pressure should be 2.9 bar at 50km/hr. If it's the updated modulator the pressure should be 3.3 bar at 50km/hr. Also make sure the vacuum control valve on your IP is adjusted properly and you don't have an intermittent leak from the vacuum switch over valves for the EGR on top of the valve cover. Here is a link to a good article on adjusting these slush boxes. http://www.mbz.org/articles/trans/diesel.html Hope this helps Bob D. 1971 220D 1983 300SD 1984 300SD |

h20diesel,
Thanks for the information on adjusting the modulator valve. I have rigged a hollow screw with a banjo fitting and hose attached to a pressure gauge, 0-100 psi. The no. on my trans. is 123 270 59 01. The car is a 1982 300D-Turbo. Would you know at what pressure the valve should be set? And at what speed or RPM? This may not be the original trans... Some more numbers on the trans;727 15 02 203914. Bill,
I don't have the TDM but you might try the Mercedes number I posted. Also you might call the service department at your local benz dealer. I think the numbers will be close to what is above but with a transmission built like a swiss watch guessing is not always best. Bob D |
