I understand that the 300TD head is different from the 300D head due to the hydraulic pump. Does this mean I'm screwed whenever I need a rebuilt engine ? Most lists of rebuilt engines only show a 300D. Just wondering, I only just broke 200,000 miles so I'm still a long way off from needing an engine.

You are only hosed if the head is cracked beyond repair (ie after a hose breaks, or if the radiator neck cracks (the one next to the hose). On the other hand if you need to have a valve job done and the head is machine leveled beyond tolerances then that would also hose you.
If you stay up all night worrying about this, then you might also be hosed.
