Hmm.. Ole Faithful injector..
I was driving around yesterday and noticed the smell of diesel in the cabin. Not diesel exhaust, raw diesel fuel. So i figured it was something simple like a fuel line. After I got around to checking it out this afternoon, I noticed my hood pad was soaked with diesel. So I started the engine to see what was going on. The injector closest to the firewall is leaking. Upon full throttle it will shoot a stream of diesel 10 feet into the air! Picture is attached.
Does the injector just need to rebuilt? I will try tightening it. The engine seems to start smoothly enough and power is good oddly enough.

Don't tighten it!! Whats missing is the "end cap" for the injector return lines. A small piece of return line with a plug in it. You're loosing an enormous amount of fuel through there you know, I bet easily half a tank in 20-30 mins of driving!
See the white lines coming off the rest of the injectors? The end injector has a little piece with a plug in it. Yours popped off, and needs to be replaced. Super easy fix, they just slip on over that barb.

No just cut a one inch length off one of the longer lines and find a plug for it.
I would try an auto parts store. If that doesn't work look for someone who sells pneumatic fittings. A 1/4" plug should do it. Hell I'll mail you one if you can wait. Danny

They could probably get you a piece of line and the correct little plug that fits in it. Its only about 1 to 1.5" long. If that one blew off it may mean the rest of them are brittle too though...I'd look into getting a meter of line and a plug piece...and change all of them. Its easy.

Mine did that last summer when the ULSD came out, ... coincidence? Anyway, I found the hose/plug, laying on the engine next to the injector.

Haha.. I called the dealer up and they wanted 2 dollars for the little piece. Got there 20 minutes before they closed... stupid little problem solved.

I found a small metal screw, cut off a short piece of the line from the fuel filter housing over to injector #1 fortunately it was longer than it had to be, then jammed the screw in it and put it on the rear nipple. Well, in the pass over the mountains it blew again, the screw that is. I limped into a car wash (and hosed down the firewall and rear window that was dripping with diesel! Then I repeated the same thing with a larger screw or something I found off a radio bracket under my dash, you have to really improvise at 10 PM on a Sunday night in the country! And the hose was real short across from the fuel filter, I suppose I was double lucky! I lost a quarter tank is all Since then I wanted to run a valve from that nipple to a long hose back to the rear bumper and be able to switch the fuel into a mister, you know a Mosquite Fogger, ha!

Return lines on both of mine failed shortly after ULSD came out.

I'm using the vac end plugs on mine, so far so good. I keep an extra one on hand, just in case.

MB had a bulletin I believe that advised against using other than the metal plug on the end. That vac plug (cap actually) can blow off anytime. I suppose its due to the hot diesel fluid reacting with the rubber. Keeping something on hand is a good idea regardless, and I should follow that advise, especially after my experience on the open road!

Quick fix....
just run a suitable sized sheet metal screw into the dead end of the hose...
SB Please note that your hood pad is now quite flammable....
