My tank had it around an inch thick- I tried the Startron tank cleaner, but it didn't really make a huge difference, so I had it cleaned by a radiator shop. The stuff dissolved with the Startron, but it was so thick that it clogged filters like there was no tomorrow. Now I'm using a dose of the fungus killer with each fill-up so as not to repeat this mess. It cost $45 (the two jugs of Startron, 20 inline fuel filters, and 3 spin-on fuel filters I went through cost much more).

Try a tankful of B99 and have a filter on hand.

Causes folks lots of problems when they switch over on older cars. Is a very effective cleaner.

I wouldnt run it that strong too much as it will effect the old rubber in the fuel lines and cause them to weep/leak. B20 seems to work better for the long run.

tank drain.

If the StarTron, WVO, BioD or BioBor stuff is knocking all that crud loose....try letting it sit in a full tank for a couple days and then drain & flush the tank repeatedly to get most the crud out rather than go thru 20 inline and 3 spin-on filters???

Drain all the fuel and let it settle and strain the clean stuff thru a coffee filter.

Get a 5 gal bucket and place under tank drain/screen hole. Pour 5 gal RUG/gas thru the tank and repeat, repeat, repeat until it flushes clean of debris.

That should get your tank pretty clean to start with. Regular use of WVO, Bio or Startron or BioBor should finish the process with out too many more filter cloggs.

I'll add my two cents because A) I need advice B)I think I'm going thru the same problem...

I don't know if what I have is algae or not... black crud in the inline filter which if you pour out onto your hand just sort of disintegrates. I'm guessing that's algae.

I use B100. Car sat all winter but before I started it up I ran all fuel thru a .5 micron filter, drained the tank and cleaned the fuel strainer. Now after 250 miles my inline is clogged.

Now I'll go and filter the B100 again to .5 micron for a couple of hours... run it back into the tank to slosh around and really kick up the contaminates. I may just have to pull the strainer again, don't know...

Suppose I'll throw some Starton in there when I'm done.

Does that sound like a plan?

I thought it curious to hear B99 to fight algae... or was it just suggested to clean out sludge?

Bill

Well, I put some Biobore Jr in the tank (at least that's what I think it's called) - Found at the local Boat shop [Thanks for the tip] - and I shook out the in line filter... I have plenty around but don't feel like going thru a dozen of them to get the worst out. I have been driving for a couple of days with no problem but and increased level of smoke out the tale pipe...

I'll check on the filter over the weekend... shake it out again.

Bill
