Tranny and Brakes, why do they hate me?

Hey Folks,

I have a 1983 300D.

After replacing the Shut Off Valve, I started having 2 new problems with my car.

Both these problems started at the same time, right after I replaced the shut off.

1. Now, my Brake Pedal is to the floor, and I can't even remember the last time they actually "braked" me. Fluid is fine. Haven't found any vac leaks.
and
2. As I step on the gas, the tranny takes forever to engage. I have to play around with the gas pedal until it shifts gears, as I try to keep it from winding out.

Can ya help?

Sounds like a vac leak somewhere. Sorry for the lack of specifics, did anything get "dislodged" in the process?

Okee dokee. Back to the drawing board to check for leaks.
I am new, so maybe I missed something.

Which hoses would primarily be effected for this to happen?
Any ideas where I should concentrate? Because, I was pretty careful when I changed the shut off.

Thanks guys.

Uhhhhhhhh, it may be something obvious that you missed. Everything that is in the vacuum system but not the brake booster is behind a restrictor, which means your main vacuum line is either cracked and leaking or leaking in some other way.
It could also be a bad vacuum pump, but because this problem appeared right after that replacement, I don't think so.

Plug the brake booster end of the main line and try to find any obvious leaks. Then try to use a mityvac on one of the ports (clog the other one) and see if it's holding vac with the car running.

Ok, checked out the tranny vac valve levers, and sure enough, they were worn so bad, one was completely gone!
I ordered the new set already.
If it is just coincidence that brakes and tranny are having problems at the same time, that means I have to concentrate on the brakes now.
So, starting from the brake booster...

Maybe you leaned on the brake vacuum line enough, when you were working on the shutoff valve, to crack the check valve to the brake booster and it is leaking.
