heater hose W210

1996 E300

The hose I need to replace is a heater hose that is next to the oil filter housing. It goes from the back of the engine to the fire wall. This one looks fun. I am assuming I have to remove the intake to get at this? From the looks of it even with the intake off I will have a problem. Anyone changed this little hose?

On second glance-If I can get the filter housing out I think I can get to the hose.

yes- Its the #5, the 14 part of it looks new. It appears to be leaking out from the connection to the engine. Lots of fun. From what I can gather from my MB CDRom I have to take the intake off.
I may be able to get at it with the intake off, if not the oil filter hosing will have to be removed also.

The engine side of the hose is covered in antifreeze, I hope this is what is leaking. I can not see enough to know for sure.

I am going to have to tackle this next weekend, car is on garage rest until then. Any tips on removing the intake?

I know exactly the pipe you're talking about. I solved it (the leak) by sleeving it with a rubber pipe and securing with jubilee clips.

Much much easier than the alternative.

This GP write up in the DIY Article tabs gives a good description of pulling the IM. http://www.peachparts.com/Wikka/OM606962GlowPlug

Torque is 20nm. You'll need a new IM gasket and should get a EGR seal ring too. Is also a fine time to change out the fuel line orings to vitton or to replace them with new.

Thanks TM, looks like a trip to the dealer for that hose. The fuel lines and seals were just replaced 10k ago at the dealership before I owned it-otherwise I would do it.
Parrot- I do not know how you sleeved the hose, I can not even get my hand on the end of the hose that goes into the engine- a clamp would seem impossible. And what is a jubliee clip?

Hacksaw, cut the rusted section out, push the new pipe on. Jubilee clips, google 'em.

Ahh hose clamps, learned a new name for them. You may be on to something, If I can figure out a way to get at the clamp that is on the old hose maybe I can pull the old hose off. The problem is going to be getting the new one on the nipple. It will be tight. I guess you just put a bigger hose over the old one and were able to clamp it down.
