2nd Delay - Tranny Question

What does it mean when theres about a 2 sec delay before the tranny engages when shifting to D or R? Is it a linkage thing or something else?

It means your car shifts just like mine.

And that it shifts like all three of ours.

Our 300D shifts the fastest, with the engaged feeling occurring in about 1.5-2 seconds....my car takes about 1.5 seconds into drive, but 2-3 seconds into reverse. My dad's takes nearly 3 seconds into R or D, but shifts flawlessly. Who knows....who cares. They've all been like that forever, and no problems so far, so we're not worried.

Another note....the 300D, which hasn't actually driven out on the road since March (just around the block a few times a month to keep it up to snuff)....is still running dino dexron in the tranny (and dino rotella in the engine) etc...we have yet to put all its fluids to synthetic....probably within a few months we will. Both 300SD's have a fully synthetic fluid driveline, from engine to differential. Perhaps the synthetic tranny fluid makes a slight difference. Mine actually began to engage faster with synthetic than on dino. My dad's noticed no difference, but it improved shifting on both (especially in the frigid cold)

The older they get.........the more the delay. It could be low pump pressure or it could be varnish in the valve body.

If you'd like to take a shot........put some Trans-X in there for a couple of hundred miles..........and see if it helps.

But, don't count on it.

You might need to search the web a bit......not sure if all the McParts carry it.

No substitutions.

Our autozone (Eastern Street location) does carry Trans-X, and they also have Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF....I buy a very large amount of stuff there.
