Quick brake pedal feel question

What exactly is normal on these 82 300Ds? How firm is too firm? Should the car stop with just a light touch of the pedal? I dunno if im making any sense but I have no frame of reference. Right now my pedal is nice and firm when the car is operating and if the car is slowing down it will stop with minimal effort but if im still travelling at speed it requires more effort.

Its never "Rock hard" or "to the floor". I guess driving newer cars I have a hard time knowing whats considered "Normal braking" on these older ones. Maybe im just being an idiot. Thanks for humoring me if you have any info.
