Nicely done, Rover. And thanks for sharing. I want to do something similar with a later model Toy 4x4.

New Process NP435. Very common tranny in Ford and Dodge trucks for years. (Some were used in Chevy trucks but were a little different.)

The Ford version had a very low 6.68 first gear that works well in 4WD applications.

The Borg Warner T-18 has the same bolt pattern and center hole and some people prefer those trannys.

The setup is going in a '67 Land Rover 109.

Early 123 240D stick car. (That one is from a '79) The early bell housings were seperate from the trannys.

Is the input shaft the same as the Mercedes or will you have to use a different clutch and pilot bearing?

Looks great Jim! Question, where did you find an 8.5" clutch disc to spline onto the 435?

The NP435 has a 1 1/16" input shaft. Two strokes with a flat-file down each spline and the Benz clutch disk fits. I had to do the exact same thing with the Rover transmission in my other truck and it's been in there and fine for 7 years now.

By the way, the bellhousing is pretty much done. I've got to figure out the throw-out bearing arm when I get it on the tranny but that should be pretty easy. Benz flywheel, Benz pressure plate and throw-out bearing. Even the pilot bushing is pretty standard bing 1.375" x .668"

I hope to have the two mocked up and sitting in the new frame in a week or so.

I don't remember, michigandon, what transmission were you trying to use? Now that I'm at this heavy, we should talk. Send me an email.
