cracks under motor mount.

Iam installing a new engine in the 85. about ready to drop it in. have the
engine compartment all clean and spiffy. don`t know why I didn`t see this
before today.
the frame under the motor mount where the two 6mm bolts thread into,
have cracks around the threaded hole on both sides. the left side is worse
than the right.
I noticed by the wear marks in the paint where the mount rests on the
frame is not even. it seem like most of the weight was on the area around
the hole.

I called a welder this morning, he came over and we discussed what to do
so when he gets back in a little bit we`ll GET ER DONE.

these cracks are under the rubber mount, so never noticed them before,
but then we don`t remove our engines everyday. with 331000 miles
stress do develope over time.

got er done

Well we got the cross frame the motor mounts bolt to welded up on both sides. welder got here 2:30P and left about 7:30p. some BS`n goin on also. charged me 4 hrs.

ground out or beveled the cracks, welded them up. made two plates to cover both sides and welded them into place. drilled the holes for the 6mm bolts, used them to hold the plate while welding. drilled a 7/8 hole in the middle for the large bolt that comes up from underneith. then 4 1/4 in holes to weld through to hold the plate in the middle.

Job came out real good, this should last until we hit the million mile mark.
I know these cars can do it, I read it on E-Bay.

so the next time one of you pull your engine, check out the area real good for any cracks.
