w115 240D troubles and questions

nothing is as simple as it seams. here is my problem, the fule gauge isn't working so i went to the dismantler and got a sending unit... still doesn't work. is there a way to test the sending unit? what else could there be other then the gauge its self? i don't think there was a gauge in the car i took the sender out of.

now for a fun question. what is the foot pump to the left of the break peddle for?

anyother quarks of the w115 i need to know about?

the foot pump would be your windshield washer.

The instrument panels in those cars are particularly known for having grounding issues with the electrical guages.

The W115 is as simple as it gets. There can be issues with the vaccum in the dash for the A/C switchover.

Sounds like you replaced a bad sender with another bad sender.

BTW, a quark is either a subatomic particle or a type of low-fat curd cheese. You probably meant quirk.

The W115 is made up of a LOT of quarks.

fixed its self.
got up thismorning to take the car to school and tha gauge was working. i was having battery problems last night. had to jump it to get it in the garage to adjust the valves. so i left a battery charger on it. and its now working. everything is working as it should. I took the car to school and put it up on the lift. no major run or anything. the car looks great. I changed its oil... now that was a *****. that filter housing doesn't like to drop down. it got hung up on the frame and the oil pan. so i giggled it. and just as my teacher was walking by the dang thing gave free slipped out og my hands and dumped oil all over the shop.... oops. i had to use an air gun to take off the pil pan drain... some monkey before me torqued the crap out of it with a pair of channel locks... it was all scared up, but not to bad. got it installed and everything is working great now. still has blow-by but you can turn it off and turn it back on as many times as you want.

i think i'm going to drive the car to see my dad 2 hours from here as the final shake down cruse.

One other question. what is up with the air filter? i bought one from napa and its the wrong type. i think i have a oil bath filter. so what do i need to clean it?
