I've been modifying how my 300SD handles. you can see most of what I've done in this thread.
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?t=204401 quick review of what I've done: THE REAR Changed rear diff mount installed 3 nub rubbers in the back installed 116 rear sway bar installed bilstein HDs THE FRONT Chopped one coil out of the springs installed bilstein HDs and now, this weekend i took out the front springs once again. and i installed the 2 nub spring rubbers up front. and i installed the coil-in spring rubbers. the car handles perfect. its like night and day between the way it was before and modifications and how it is now. the problem is this. i took a measuring tape to the car. here is how is stacks up. Front Drivers side - 26.25 inches from ground to fender lip Front Passengers side - 27 inches from ground to fender lip Rear Drivers side - 25.5 inches from ground to fender lip Rear Passengers side - 26 inches from ground to fender lip so that confirms what my eyes been telling me. my car leans to the drivers side... that no shock because I'm a big guy... and i normally ride around alone. the question is. how do i correct this. i wasn't really a problem until i let Justin drive my car, and i fallowed him and i was able to see it's lean. that just makes me mad. anyone have any ideas hot to correct the lean? I've already thought about the twist in aluminum knuckles... that would raise the drivers side... but its a little to getto for me. and thats saying a lot.

Increase the thickness of the spring spacer on the LF, or reduce the thickness on the RF. The next size thinner or thicker than you currently have should do it.

I'm interested in your ride height compared to original. Have you noticed much decrease in ride quality due to cutting the springs? Lowering springs obviously reduce ride quality, even immensely when lowered a couple inches ('95 Mustang GT), but am wondering how this compares to the cutting of coils, if you happen to own a car that has lowering springs or if you have rode in one since your mod.
Anyway, more than anything, I'm just interested in the original ride height compared to your modified one. Thanks.

I have the 1" lowering springs on my 84 280e. The front feels lacking in suspension travel for street use. For autocrossing though it feels sloppy!

83 300SD details...Sparky The Diesel...
Got tired of my Sparky's tail dragger stance and the 1960's super stock height. Therefore put H & R springs from a SE V8 model. Ran the No.2 spring spacers in the rear and no. 1 spacer in front. In hindsight should have run at least no. 2 or 3 spacers in front. Lowered rear about 2 inches and the front over about 4 inches. I'm runnng 16" wheels/lug bolts from a 1999 SLK with modern tires (7 in. wide rim in front & 8 in. wide rim rear). It all clears on the wheels and is just a plug and play set up. Handling is great, tho a little low in the front. Nose down attitude does help handling on TEXAS long straight roads....especially at super legal speeds. Firmer ride is a given but not too harsh. I do have more control of the car. Wife loves it...but then she normally drives one of the other German brands.....dare I say it...BMW.
Tilt on the curves in town is greatly reduced....and that helps as Dallas traffic does not want you to slow down. Car does not feel as if it is going to capsize. This is an aid in traffic as I do not have to slow so much for corners and diesels do not have acceleration as their forte. Car handling improvement is about 50% modern wheels/tires, 30 % springs/ride height, and 20 % new shocks. Think I may raise up the front next spring and realign, but for now I shall see how it goes. Regards Run-Em

left to right ride hide variance
I've got the same issue. On my list of things to do is pull the front springs and decompress them to see if I have any fatigue. If not, just replace the pads to see if my ride height variance left to right can be addressed.
of courese, that begs the question: If I take the springs out and measure them fully decompressed - will that tell me if the spring is fatigued (compressing more than it should)? hmmmm
