The story I have heard is that the block heater was a free option available to all Mercedes diesels. However, it was not always installed.
You will need to evaluate whether you want to be messing with the block of your car to install an OEM block heater. It certainly is well placed on the engine to transfer heat, but you'll need to take a lot off the car to gain access with a big wrench to the plug. The easier option might be to install some form of after-market heater. Just how cold does it run during winter in your neighborhood? Ken300D
