That would be totaly cool...until a totaly bone stock S500 walked on you.

That 5L M119 is one STRONG V8, 0-60 on those is in the low 5 second range.

They must have some major HP. The W140 was the biggest S Class to date and must weigh in at 4200+ Lbs. They are huge cars.

The W140 with the M119 engine was approx 4800 lbs curb weight. More details are here, complete with HP ratings and axle ratios:

LOL, not quite. The W140 S500 covers 60 a few ticks past 7 seconds. Its about as quick as an older 560SEL.

I think the W140 needs the might of the M120, IMHO. That's the engine that belongs in that car if you want some meat under the hood. The sound of that thing when you get on it, is heavenly. Basically, like two M104's joined together sharing a common crank.

Low 5 second sounded a bit too fast for me. I remember when Road & Track only got 6.4 seconds for the first gen. Porsche turbo. They later admitted that they had dumped the clutch too hard and it dogged on takeoff. It could really do right at 6 seconds.

Naturaly they are slow when compared to the newer MB's.

Something like say an S65 can go to 60 in about the mid 4 second range, not bad for a fully loaded heavy sedan.

The AMG S class's are 200mph cars. Diesels cannot deleiver that kind of performance.

I have seem them G tech'd in the mid 5's, too low 6's.

How many gallons of premium do they consume during that 5-7 seconds?

However, I'd personally want a 600SEL.

In a W140 I'd have to say...gotta have the V12....

I've got dragstrip data that says my E500 does 0-60 right at 5.9-6.0 seconds, a couple ticks quicker than the 1994 factory spec of 6.1 seconds. However I'm also usually running with the gas tank on reserve, and the trunk empty. So in normal trim, it might be right at 6.1, give or take a hair.

The official MB spec for the W140 S500 is 7.2 seconds. While a good one with a tailwind might run high 6's, there's no way it would do low 6's or mid 5's, without NOS.

Forget what the G-Tech says... they're only accurate if you set them up *perfectly*, and run on a flat road.

Back to the original question... I'd be all over a cheap S350 if it were in good condition. The W140's are incredible machines. My BIL has a '94 S500, he eventually gave up looking for an S350 that already had the motor replaced.
