Intake pressure sensor, 617 Turbo
I'm putting the manifolds back on the 617 turbo I'm putting in my Land Rover and notice what looks like a pressure sensor on the intake manifold. As I didn't take this engine out and don't have one to compare, maybe someone can tell me where this wire lead to? I'm eliminating most controls on this engine including the EGR, cruise control and the timed glow plugs so I'm thinking I don't need this sensor anyway but thought I'd make sure before I eliminate it.

The pressure sensor operates the overboost protection solenoid on the firewall. It closes at a pressure of 15 psi and the overboost protection solenoid dumps all boost to the ALDA.
In reality, it's probably clogged with soot and won't close at any pressure, rendering the entire protection system useless. |

Depending on the location of the wire, it could be the one that leads to the turbo switchover valve.

It's more of a pressure switch than a sensor.
If you have a good boost gauge and you maintain your engine well then I wouldn't worry about wiring it in. I'd probably even try to find a plug to eliminate it from the intake. |

Thanks all. looks like I can forget about it. I'll tap it out and use it for the port for the boost gauge. It's a crazy 11mm x 1.50 thread so finding a proper plug is a long-shot anyway.
