I get about 26 mpg on biodiesel and 25 mpg on wvo. Last tank of bio lasted 1750 miles. Worst was a trip out to Colorado. I got about 20mpg because i had 2 full tanks and 28gals of extra fuel in the trunk. Still did pretty good in the mountains. I could hold 65mph goin up hill. The weight and the front of the car sticking up in the air killed my milage. Only had to burn 3/4's of a bio/d2 tank though.
The best iv'e seen is 29 mpg coming back from Tahoe to SF.

Ive recorded 21 mpg, but i could do better, maybe 22 23. Kind of sucks. Im not putting out black smoke or anything so theres no wasted fuel. And its a low mileage car. I tend to drive it a little hard i guess, but nomore than anyone else here. The car is fast for a 85 300d, maybe that has something to do with it guzzling the fuel. Im going to rig up a 1 gallon jug under my hood asap so I can see what my real mileage is. ill just drive around the neighborhoods for awhile until the fuel runs out, then well see for sure. That will show me my city mileage

I get about 22 in the 240D these days. I think it could use some injector work, and I know I have a small fuel leak at the filter. And I don't drive gently. The 300 has been getting 26-27 on winter fuel.

300cd Non turbo, 25mpg on the highway, 21 in the city, I have never gotten less than 21mpg. Recently timed the injection pump and put in better injectors. Could probably fuel something from the 80's-90's with a v8 for the same money fuel costs for my car.

How many people are calculating for resized tires?

http://www.dakota-truck.net/TIRECALC/tirecalc.html

My guess is that most people are running oversized tires which should actually decrease odometer based mileage (small percentage but not insignificant... could definitely correlate to 1 mpg or more).

Based on this, I'm surprised that we don't see more numbers below 25mpg. Perhaps there is some pride in getting better mileage that stretches the truth...

How many have verified their odometers are accurate? Has anyone checked their mpg with a GPS?

I normally get 22-24 from my 300D, but then it's got 326K on the original engine. Best ever was 25.5, worst was 19, fully loaded, 70 MPH into a 20MPH headwind.

The SD, bought at 300,000+ didn't get better than 21, it's down with a bad #3 cylinder (200PSI) and a knock- and I just haven't had time to pull the head to see what's going on.

No doubt a fresh engine in either car would help mielage a great deal.

I like that one also, however since similar model tires from different manufacturers are actually different sizes at the very least a GPS test should be done to confirm an odometer differential... Preferably the odometer should be checked against a measured distance such as at least 10 miles of measured highway...

It would depend on wether it was summer or winter for me. The winter diesel they sell here was crap. I'd generally average between 28 to 30mpg on it and it would rise to 30 to 32 on average during the summer. That was with a 4 speed stick shift OM616 240D that sadly is no more. I verified it as accurate because it was my commuter and I knew my two routes which I never varied. Not much difference between freeway and city actually, but then I usually kept it under 70mph on the freeway.

240D w/ 5 speed. 32 or 33 mpg consistantly. ODO is within 5%.
