Will the EC light turn off?

Start with codes and actual values. See this article. http://www.continentalimports.com/ser_ic40142.html

The cabin fan is not blowing? That would most likely be the regulator or a fuse.

You said the AC doesn't come on....... Have you looked at the compressor to see if it is on; or is it that the fan simply isn't blowing the cold air out?

If the AC is on and the blower isnt, it may well be the regulator that is at fault. Usually in that event, the CCU will show the fan as running full speed when it isnt.

The blower motor fuse ought to be in the fuse cab in the eng compartment.

Fuses are in the fuse box(es). There are three:
1. Under the hood, driver's (left) side.
2. Left side of dash, behind side panel that shows when you open driver's (left) door.
3. Under rear seat, right side near battery.
All come with a card that shows what fuse does what.

a\c problems 96 e300d

Hi Guys
Thanks for the reply. The compressor not coming on only 7 volt
coming from the power. I used a 12 volt outside source and the clutch
starts up . Where should I go from here ? Thanks Greg

Are you certain there is refrigerant in it? There is a low pressure switch on the receiver-drier which will keep the compressor from engaging if the level is too low.

Thanks for the reply
The level was low I filled it the compressor runs but Its
blowing cool air not cold and the middle console vents are not working
all the time. Ive saw somewhere that the a\c compressor has 2 speeds
could it be that its on low speed because its not blowing very hard ? Its
on max speed. How can I check these things? thanks Greg

It is a variable-displacement compressor with a mechanical control. You must evacuate the system to access the control valve, if that is the problem.

More likely you are low on refrigerant or there is a restriction in the system (or both). There is a TSB on the dryer, and if yours is original it is likely restricted. Do you hear a hissing sound coming from the center vents when the compressor runs?

could also be the evap temp sensor which is a common fault. Do the diagnostics test discussed above in post #2 and report back the reading for item #5 and #7 when the a/c is running.

Usually a hissing sound indicates low refrigerant levels, and that would be my first course of action. You are dealing with an expensive system, and if you are not comfortable in working on it, I would suggest you take it in to a a/c shop so that the proper measurements can be taken by a professional using gauges designed for that purpose. Good luck

A restriction will also cause the same hissing, but adding refrigerant won't fix it.

Indeed, if you're not in a position to check the pressures, take it to a good shop. Ensure that they will recharge the car by weight and not pressure, then check the pressures after charging. If there's a restriction, your high-side pressure will spike with the proper refrigerant fill.

You can't reliably charge your TXV system using the pressures anyway. Most US-made cars are CCOT systems and can be fairly reliably charged by pressures.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the reply. Why dont the center vents work? Is there
a blockage or low pressure causes this? thank Greg
