High Potassium!!
![]() Funny thing is, car doesn't use any coolant. Level is stable..... Go figure. I'm coming up on 5,000 miles. I may change the oil and filter and then send the sample into Blackstone to see what's going on. I spoke with one of their reps who seemed very knowledgeable about OCIs, and I think I'm going back to 5,000 intervals vs 3,000 mi filter changes and topping off, then running extended. PS, it wasnt 12,000 miles on the oil, more like 10,000, but still I'm glad I changed it...... ![]()

The SD continues to show elevated sodium and potassium even though it doesn't use one drop of coolant (new head and gasket). No sign of glycol in the oil.
The SDL ('86) also shows similar elevated levels without any coolant loss. My conclusion is that the Rotella synthetic is the contributor to these levels in some way. |

Yup, if it was getting antifreeze in the oil, the sodium would also be elevated. I think some of the potassium is either in the virgin oil, or perhaps comes from fuel addatives.
It might be interesting to go over to Bobistheoilguy.com and study up on some posted virgin oil analyses. P.S. Mine both show a little potassium. They always have. I have used a variety of oils over the years, currently using Rotella syn.
