I know you might be paraphrasing what nhdoc asked but "low-sulphur" and "ultra low sulphur" are not the same thing.

You might ask them about the new motor oil reformulations and receive a similar response. I don't think you will get something in writing sure to generate a firestorm.

I liked the Bosch article that vox incognita referenced.

Interesting thread.

Thank you for your recent e-mail to the Mercedes-Benz Customer Assistance

The "Low-Sulfur" fuel will not negatively affect your vehicle, nor will any
additives be required for you to use. If you have further questions

We hope this information is useful. Best wishes for future safe and

At the time he was asking about ULSD, shortly after it was available in the U.S. Again, you can use additives if you want but they are not necessary.

One brighter note is that regulations often force reexaminations of accepted solutions. Willingness to be open to new ideas can generate ultimately superior ones.

Went to walmart last night suprized to find about 8 types of tw-3 2 cycle oil ranging from $ 11 a gallon for castrol up to like $25 for johnson product wondering if there's any difference in the synthetic and reg or any thoughts as to a good brand if you wanted to add 2 cycle oil strictly for max. lubricity?

I use Quicksilver oil in the outboards, it was $10 a quart last year probably more now.

Ashless is better.
I read some reports on the cummins diesel forum that
the generic walmart super tech two cycle oil is about the best
bang for the buck.

Whatever is cheapest for this application, doesn't really matter.

OK, I know I said my previous post was my last, but I figure its worth posting the results from the 2-cycle additive. On the first tank, after approx. a 70 mile trip, the car idled noticeably quieter. At the next fill up I averaged the fuel economy, 29.67 MPG.....I average my economy after about every tank as I do the same 140 mile round trip 5 days a week in this car, it usually averages about 26.4 to 27 MPG, thats at least a 2 MPG increase! So for the $1.60 SuperTech 2 cycle oil, I get better economy and quieter idle...It does smoke a little more, but thats to be expected and it doesn't bother me....just thought I'd let everyone know!

A little 2-cycle oil isn't going to make a 7% increase on its own.

Bravo for scientific method. More data would be great but your results are clearly in line with this study at Technion in Israel:

Another update, filled up today with the third tank using the 2 cycle. I averaged the fuel economy once again, 29.76 MPG! I would test once again with straight diesel, but frankly it costs too much!

Moxieman, I'm with YOU. I have been running 2-cycle Walmart TWC-3 in my F-250 for about a year & have experienced not only a quieter running engine, but also a 2-mpg bump in fuel mileage.

Now, I know that the 7.3 L International engine in my F-250 is an electronically controlled engine, unlike most of the engines spoken of here, but I cannot see where it would matter.

Regardless of who says ultra-low sulphur is OK for your engine - it probably is - why is there so much antagonism toward folks that choose to use TWC-3 as an additive? There is no question that it will not harm your engine & will probably help it. 2-cycle oil is designed to burn in engines. Otherwise, why is it used in outboard boat engines, weed-whackers, & all 2-cycle engines for lubrication? If it works for you, USE IT! If you do not want to use it, don't. No one is forcing you to.

ACTUALLY, you are incorrect, if you would take the time to read the thread you are posting a response to you would find that MERCEDES-BENZ actually approves 2 cycle usage in their engines.....the link was posted by both vox_incognita and myself......

Where are you located? The mileage increase you have been seeing is probably from the fuel stations switching from winter to summer diesel.
