300SDL damaged door

My daughter back into the drivers door of my 300SDL.
Are there any other years and models that I can use to replace the damaged drivers door on my 87 300SDL?

The auto-body shop estimated $2,100 to complete the repair with a new OEM door, the new door was $600.

Sounds like she damaged more than the door!

A W126 is a W126, the rear door off of any post 86 LWB W126 will work. I have a complete set from a 420SEL sitting in my basement just incase I find myself in a similer situation.

Unless you have an oddball color find one with that match's so they just have to spray the outside, to get it perfect, and the door jam's will match.

Time for the daughter to go. *kidding*

Yikes, that's quite an estimate- You should be able to get the door fixed and a 1/2 decent paint job for the entire car for that price...

If you have an independent salvage yard in your area, ask them if they have one. Also, many salvage yards also have internet databases at their disposal of salvage parts from other dealers. They can search for the specific model door and color, kind of like ebay or autorader. Gotta love the internet.

I personally whitnessed a friend of mine who owns a salvage yard locate a specific color sliding door for a van using this method.

I don't know where you're located, but call around salvage yards and parts suppliers. I'm sure one can be had like your car for less than $1,000.

This is the second daughter in about a week that has damaged a MB W126 in some way! Gotta keep those daughters away from our precious MB's!

We have a couple W126's in the yards by me....in case you're in need of a door. One of them is a SEL and one is a SE....they both have a bit of rust but not much (just a bit on the inside lower area)

Bears eating their young seems justified in some cases.

Bears are big, can't blame them for wanting a snack every now and then.

Yeah, I thought and SDL and an SEL were essentially the same car with different engines. Is that not the case?

Doesn't matter which chassis, short or long, or which engine....

A rear door will not fit the front opening.

As another thought, is there any difference between the early and late doors? I know the plastic changed, but fundamentally, isn't the metal the same?

Jim
