Bleeding cooling system

Hello all!

I will soon be replacing my radiator with a brand new unit along with both rad hoses. Is there anything special needed to bleed the air pockets out of the cooling system? I've noticed that there looks to be a bolt right on top on the thermostat housing that may be used to bleed??

Any help would be appreciated!

Try to park with the nose uphill.

If you fill with the top radiator hose loose at radiator, then fasten it to radiator, gets a lot of the air out. My 77 300 D, will peg the meter, then I open the nut on top of the thermostat housing and it lets the air out with a little fluid, watch it will be hot. This is how my dealer said to do it.

Fill up the system thru the top radiator hose. Park with nose uphill. Run at idle with the heater on full blast. When I've done this, I haven't found a need to bleed any air out.

One additional thing that usually isn't necessary unless you drain the block is too let go the heater hose that goes from the head (driver side) to the fire wall. take it off at the firewall end and wire it up till coolant comes out while your filling the top radiator hose.

If youhave the bolt you should use it. Some cars do not have one. In any case, park on an uphill slope and fill the hose first (to fill the block)then run it at about 3000RPM with the defroster on after it gets up to temp. this should burp out any residual air trapped in the system...

Ok, as far as filling the system through the upper hose, what end is connected? The radiator end or the engine end? Also, I believe a lot of the block is empty, as my rad spung a pretty big leak on the freeway

Disconnect at the radiator and fill the block.
