I always tell buyers that they can call and I will help them figure things out. Sometimes I hear from them and sometimes I don't.

The fellow who bought my 83 240/300 called me not too long after he bought it and said the clutch went out. I told him it had a new pp and disc and to check brake fluid level. The place he had the car was not expert and I had no knowledge of them as far as honesty. He told me that they said the car needed everythign and it was going to be 1500. I suggested he take it to the place that does all my work.

Well he did not listen to any of it and paid them 1500 or so and I am pretty sure all that was needed was brake fluid. I doubt that they did any actual work.

But most folks call with minor problems and I help hook them up with parts suppliers etc.

I have had many times that they call when the car needs a repair and offer it back to me. Usually though, I sold it because I didn't need it.

In the case of the 240/300 I ended up buying it back and I got it on the road this week and am having a ball driving it again. Its a sweetheart!

I bought mine from Mercedes Benz of Ft. Lauderdale. . .so I never met the PO. . .when I was cleaning the car, under the back seat I found a small piece of paper with the wife's name on it and on the battery cover ( i guess it was replaced at some point) had the last name on the parts sticker... Looked them up, they still live in hollywood Fl. Kinda a crotchety old coupple, at least from what I derived from the husband. . .The car is in better hands now. . mine!

I tried to do that once on a much older US automobile and was able to go back as far as the third previous owner. Unknown to me, a few years later the second owner and his brother-in-law also tried to find their old car and got forward to the fellow who was the PO to me. At some later point the brother-in-law wrote an article in the club news letter for our particular car, and I recognised the pictures and some of the details. Long story short, I now know a good part of the history of this car and the names of all of the previous owners. Plus the second owner was kind enough to send pics of the car taken about 1941.
