Water Leak in trunk of 1972 220d
What are the most common culprits for water leaks into the trunks of mb's of my vintage (1972/220d)? Can water which has leaked into the trunk make its way under the carpets of the car's passenger cabin? or is that water always coming from its own, separate, leak source?
I would appreciate any help with this matter. I live in Oregon, so water coming into the car is a big issue for about eight months of the year. |

The most common sources for leaks for the 114/115 as well as the 123 cars in the trunk are the trunk seal and tail-light assembly seals. Water under the foot wells - front & rear - is usually from a leak in the windshield seal. I lived in Portland for 13 years and became quite familiar with these leaks. It's a beautiful town; if I could afford to return, I would. Enjoy!

Also water in the trunk can come from leaks around the seal for the rear windshield. Very similar to front windshield in construction and installation and suffers from the same problems. If you use the search function on the site, there will be numerous threads which can help on diagnosis and repair or replacement tips.
