1999 E300TD Xenon w/washers Retrofit

Hi all,

I searched all articles and I could not find anything relevant to replacing my OEM xenons with some Euro ones at bekkers.com. Normally, it should be a rather easy plug-n-play IF you don't have the integrated headlight washers.

I am finding that it looks a bit more involved to retrofit with the washers already in place; for one the front headlight trim surrounding the washer mechanism has a rubber piece running all the way to the fender and screw to release is directly below the washer head. Anyone have some insight on the proper procedure before I break something??

Any help is much appreciated!

Jason

Ok, figured it out and am posting for anyone else that would consider the procedure.

The difference is actually rather minimal. Once the lower clip/rubber strip is pried loose from the clips in back, the washer assembly with the front trim piece will pull forward and can drop over the bumper. All screws are easily accessible and the lighting assemblies can be swapped out. I would budget about an hour for both lights.

Just curious, but why did you swap US for euro HID lights? The cutoff patterns are pretty similar...

I'm interested in converting the halogen projector headlights on my CDI to the proper HID housing w/HID bulbs, etc (IE, not a re-based bulb kit).

The existing lamps were incredibly yellowed and cloudy from the AZ sun, enough that the lighting was much worse than any halogen. They had be replaced, and instead of paying $800 or so for just for lens covers, I decided to go with the entire european HIDs assembly at Bekkers. I am personally very happy with the difference, but admittedly, anything was an improvement and the new ones were on the spendy side, at about $1350 for the pair. (I have just noticed that they are now at $1500 for the pair, perhaps due to the weak dollar.)

Anyone out there know what exactly the difference is between the NA and Euro units is? I know European spec xenons are generally "better" than NA for visibility, but why?

You probably could have had the lenses treated and refurbished for much less than $800.

Agreed, and plan on doing just that to sell on eBay or craigslist.
