help me ID this steering component please
Please help me ID the steering component on the right side of this photo. It's on the passenger side of the car and the arm bolted to the top of it connects to the tie-rods on that side of the car. I also need to know how to rebuild it. If I rock the passenger tire side-to-side the bolt through the cylinder moves about 1/4" causing lots of play in the wheel. I tried tightening the nut on the bottom of the cylinder to 140 ft/lbs and it still has just as much play. I assume there is some kind of bearing inside that the bolt pivots on and I want to have all of my parts ready before I yank it apart.
thanks, ben

That is the idler arm and you will need one of these: http://catalog.worldpac.com/mercedesshop/sophio/wizard.jsp?partner=mercedesshop&clientid=catalog.mercedesshop&baseurl=http://catalog.peachparts.com/&cookieid=2D30S2O9Y2D30S33P1&year=1985&make=MB&model=300-DT-001&category=M&part=Idler+Arm+Repair+Kit
About the only special tool you should need is a long drift punch to drive the bushings out of the ends. (Use K-Y jelly to install the new ones.)
