Lightbulb I think I know what's wrong.

So I was reading post on here rather than doing my take home final for Astronomy and I came across an article about blow by. It was said that loss of compression can cause heating on the highway, which is exactly what my 240D is doing. I heard a valve adjustment can help greatly. Now I know my car REALLY needs one, my 240D is seriously... a POW. The past owner didn't do anything to this car other than park it and drive it. It had the same air filter for years, with literally caked on mud. Now I KNOW this PO did not have a valve adjustment at all in the past year maybe 2 years. heck with him it's probably never been done. So could this be a fix? and anyways if it isn't I still want it done because I know it needs one.
