Question 603.971 engine

Hi
Two weeks ago I noticed almost 1.5 qt per 1000 mi also my intake was very wet so much the crossover tube was leaking ! the motor would blow smoke when I would start it for the first minute ! I tried to run it and no oil came from the vent tube . I also ran it with the crossover pipe off and no oil came from the turbo, how ever the front of the turbo was wet with oil. I took off the the intake and saw # 1 & 2 with very heavy sluge on the runner tube. Tonight I took off the # 18 head to see if the head gasket would be the soulution, I seemed to be ok .the clock says 100,000 miles on the motor. what to look for next ? I am just about fed up ! This didnt happen with my 617.951 !!!!!!!!! Thank you J

The '86 is similar. It's drinking about 1 quart every 1000 miles. At these levels, you won't see the oil coming up from the turbo, but, I'm confident that the turbo is the source. It's been getting steadily worse over the last 50K miles.

The symptoms don't sound like the typical 603.971 problem. The wet intake tract and wet turbo are the clues here.

You can take it apart and change the seals yourself if you wish.

There are remans from various sources (Majestic Turbo and others) that will lift $350. from you for the privilege.
