I need A/C too

I am about 2 hours from you and would love to have functional A/C. I have a Euro TD with manual controls. It came from the factory with A/C, but it is not blowing cold right now. When I turn the wheel I hear something different happening from the engine, but definitely no cold air. Is there an easy way to test the compressor? I might just have to come visit!

close enough to stay with the car for about 4 hours while testing and servicing is done and still make it home for dinner time... or a hotel stay if you are really desperate for quality R12 a/c work.

there is no POSITIVE sure fire way to test a compressor that is easy.
a simple test to eliminate a seized compressor is to grasp the center clutch mechanism and see if it turns freely. not the belt section of the clutch but the center part on the end.
the only way to positively test a compressor is to pop it loose and inspect it for debris, then get the correct amount of oil in the system and see what kind of pressures it builds with the correct volume of refrigerant in a clean system.

The "Crazy" price is reflective of the laws that have been enacted that place a very high tax on the use of R-12 in the U.S. because it breaks down the ozone layer in the atmosphere. Hence the reason we all have to wear sunblock now as opposed to when I was a kid and we never even thought of it.

um, are you serious?
the true reason for the CFC phaseout is dupont needed a new revenue cash cow. the patents expired on dupont's freon approximatly the same time as the cfc's became unlawfull to manufacture... cooinkidink?

the ozone layer hole centered over the pole of antartica was discovered 8 years before freon was invented...

volcano activity and sun/weather activity are the reason for it and your sunblock addiction. which was just as important in the 30's as it is now... just fewer commercials asking you to buy it.

oh, and yesterday's asking wholesale price on 30Lb r12 cylinder was... 1423.00 NF!@#!W!!!!
