can't shut off 300sdl

about a week ago the sdl decided it wasn't gonna shut off.so i go out and flip the lever and all is good.but it keeps doing it.now when you turn the key off the rpm's drop to about 1/2 of what they were at idle.it has great vacuum to the shut off diaphram.but it just doesn't pull the lever all the way down.kindof like it's out of adjustment.
i just have to touch the lever and it goes the rest of the way off.any suggestions???

Double-check vacuum hoses? There's one I often knock loose when I change my oil filter, and have similar symptoms. I'd start with the simple stuff first. Of course if you have to really stomp on the brake to stop, it may be the vacuum pump.

Sorry if this is all to obvious, you may have checked this stuff already!

If you have a strong vacuum to the shut off valve (SOV) and it does not pull the lever all the way off, the valve needs to be replaced. I just did mine on the SDL. You can do it without taking the intake manifold off. yo do have to remove the ALDA and the connector that is right next to the SOV. Take the cross over pipe off the manifold for better access. It took me about 1.5 hours to do it that way. I also left the ALDA off and the power difference is amazing...

well i replaced the vac pump last year with the new style.i need to pull the intake anyway as it's leaking from the front cyl runner.and it needs a couple glow plugs too.might be time for the alda removal too.might try my vac guage to see what i have for vac,but man it has some suction to it.
