Harmonic balancer Key install

Ok this should be simple but we're having trouble. We have a new key for the harmonic balancer but every time we try to put it on, the key gets pushed (And if we don't stop it gets pushed into the oil pan.) Is there a trick that we are missing here or did my shop supply me with the wrong key?

(Sorry about the low quality, I hate the stupid "auto focus" on this camera)

are you tapping the key totally into the slot?
does it fit all the way in?
perhaps there is some grease or sumsuch blocking the key from fitting.
I have gotten stubborn keys to go in by slightly inclining them like a ramp so they don't hit the neck on installation.
be sure the keyway on the collar is clear of debris...

The keyway is definetley clean, we didn't tap the key in for fear of damaging the crankshaft but we do level it first. Inclining it is actually the problem. When we put the hub on the key angles up at the back.

This isn't the key that I bought but it looks different.

*Sigh of relief* Ok never mind, it was a stubborn little bugger but we finally got it.

I have a very long thin flat blade screwdrive that has helped me with a number of keys.

A trick to get them to stick in place is to put a dab of axle grease on them.

I had the same problem getting the balancer on the 603. Fortunately the oil pan wasn't on so it was possible to use a stick to keep the key from getting pushed out of place as the pulley slide over. Royal PITA!
