I went with my brother to the local junkyard (Holland's used auto parts, great place for those in MA) today to help him pull some stuff for is ford escort (there were a million there). It was my first time there, so I went to look at there selection of MBs. Mostly gasser W124s, a few gasser W126s and one gasser W116. I was secretly hoping that there wouldn't be any W123s there, but there were two 300Ds . They were mostly complete. I had to kick some snow out of the way to close the door, someone had left it open . They were the only diesel MBs I saw.

2 Lower milage engines

I was at the PNP in Newark, Ca. on Mowery, Av off I-880.

there is a 84 300D 147,413 miles. hit on the R/F corner, is an insurance claim, totaled. blue interior, not too bad of shape. cracked dash.

there is a 84 300SD 172,663 miles, side swiped on the right side. another insurance claim, totaled. black interior.
the starter, alternator, air filter mount and Continental belts look new. the one rear rotor I could see, was also new.

Both cars looked to have been taken care of

Need sunroof carrier assy

Hey Charlie, I have a 87 W126 car that need the carrier assembly for the sunroof. It's the sliding bracket that the cable attaches to and attaches to the sunroof on both sides. I'm in SoCal but my wife lives in Boulder Creek near Santa Cruz. I've gotten some parts from Moss landing when I've been up there but I'm stuck down here in 29 Palms 500 miles away.
If you could pull one for me I would greatly appreciate it and get it from you. Let me know!

Steve

There is a 1979 240D 4-speed manual with a PERFECT bamboo interior in the Vancouver WA U-pull-it. Even the plastic door trim is not warped. I grabbed the dash and console, but the rest is still there...seats, carpet door panels (with undamaged map pockets) etc...

The car seems to have been babied up until it met an early demise from being rear ended

euro w126 in chicagoland

At victory auto wreckers in Bensenville Il, theres a euro w126 with Grey euro bumpers in decent shape (front bumper already removed). no euro lights, it still has the manual climate control and grey velour seats with what looks like an orthopedic control next to the seat belt(decent shape no tears but a little dirty.) and the gauges removed in km (but still there). the cars a v8 not sure what engine though, I'm pretty sure it was too small to be a 560.

240d Manual at LKQ Tampa

At the LKQ in Tampa today I spotted a 240d with manual transmission for those of you considering a 4 speed conversion in your 300d. The transmission is still attached to the engine and the pedal assembly is there but someone took the shifter. I didn't look under the car to see if the driveshaft is still there. I have too many projects going to to start a 4 speed conversion and resisted the urge to start collecting parts again.

This is your friendly neighborhood alert that PickNPull at 2416 112th Street S, Lakewood, WA 98499 (Pick-n-Pull » Home) has three W116 chassis Mercedes sedans in the yard (a 1977 280SE, a 1979 300SD, and a 1979 450SEL). I do not work for PickNPull, nor do I own these cars--I am just a Mercedes W116 owner/enthusiast who wants to get the word out to others. I've already pulled just about everything I want from these cars.

Two of these cars have the rare parchment (off-white) interiors with great front seats and the 300SD has a Euro-spec black velour interior (probably not original). The 300SD has a brand new exhaust with the labels still on it. If you ask me, I can let you know if the parts were there when I was there on Monday. I removed all fog lights, the dashboard wood from two of them, removed the oil cooler from the 300SD... some other trinkets, too. One of my friends got the back seat and rear door from the 450SEL... pretty much everything else should still be there.

I drive a 1980 W116 300SD, by the way. Below are pictures of the three cars.

That 79 SD should have the intake/exhaust manifolds w/o the EGR.

78 and 79 are the only years that are EGR less.

It's a newer mid-1980s engine from another junkyard car (receipts are in the glove box) with EGR and a bunch of extra junk on the turbo, etc.

There's a 240d at the pic-a-part on 16th street in Indianapolis with a manual transmission. Center console with shifter looked to be in good condition as were the pedals. Engine was gone but the tranny was still there.

I spent 4 hours a day for the last two days at the U pull and pay in Albuquerque, NM. Got myself a bunch of great MB parts but there is still a lot left. There are a few W116s but all are gassers. There is an '81 240d that is really straight and pretty clean as it was running only a month ago. (I got a perfect glow plug relay to replace my old bad one and the cruise control amplifier in hope to fix the cruise on my 300d.)

Anyway, the 240 is still mostly complete and if I had more funds, I would have grabbed the transmission and the differential but I've spent too much money on my car as it is. The rear seat is almost perfect. The pads and the springs look new. MBTex is in great condition for the age of the car. 3 of the 4 doors have fully intact and working manual crank windows. Driver's side crank is missing. Perfect headliner.

The other W123 is a '79 300d that has been well picked over but this car as well as the 240d have intact vacuum systems that I put my MightyVac against and they held vacuum for the most part. Vacuum canisters above the fuel tanks both are tight. Both fuel tanks look great.

Most of the MB's in the lot have their stock wheels and a bunch of them are very good looking bundts. There are more 190's tan one can shake a stick at, no turbo diesels though.

I have no connections with this yard, by the way, except for the money they keep taking in exchange for parts...

Hey Phill, do the 240D or 300D have the light alloy wheels? they look like the steel wheels except have the silver stripe around the center of the wheel. the 5 1/2" have the broken stripe and the solid one is a 6" wide wheel. the 6" are rare. there are people looking for these.

Starting this Thursday thru Mon is 50% off at our PNP`s.

I thought I saw a set of these but they were from a BMW sitting nearby. The 240 has a set of very pretty regular (maybe recently blasted and painted) steel wheels.
A lot of alloy Benz wheels there but they were all the common ones we often see, the flat face, common on the 190's and the bundts.

If I had a spare $1000, I'd have a 4 speed manual tranny, a differential, a pretty set of axles, "new" (to me) interior, set of 15" bundts, and some floorpans for repairing mine, sitting in the garage right now. One day...

15" Bundts really????? do you know what those are worth???? if they really are 15" and in good shape, grab them and that is the $$$$ you need.

I have only come across one set about 7 yrs ago.
