Which Bilstein shocks to go with?

I want to get somoe new shocks, from what I read, Bilsteins are the way to go, not Koni's.

Turns out Billstein has 2 types, the OEM or a heavy-duty. Which is the best for my car?

Plus, I was just going to get the 2 front ones, not the rears. Maybe later when I get more funny money. Is just doing the 2 fronts good, or does the car not handle well if they're not all done at the same time?

Last question, how hard are front shocks to remove and install the new?

Thanks,

Unless you have some unusual terrain you are traveling on the standard OEM are going to be fine.

Ditto that. Here in Michigan, the roads are terrible, so the HDs seemed like they might be a little stiff. Haven't tried the HDs, but I love the ride of the comfort Bilsteins.

Guys, where can we purchase Bilstein Comfort for a W210 car?

My father had the Bilstein HDs put in his '98 E300D last year. They're quite a bit stiffer than stock. He complains a bit....Even I was surprised at the new level of firmness. Not objectionable, but quite firm.

I've got Koni (externally adjustable) in my 1999 E300D, but the entire suspension has been modified including the addition of 18" wheels so it's hard for me to make a direct comparision against a mostly stock car. When I purchased this car it had H&R springs and the Bilstein Sport. That combo was punishing on my local roads. The Koni is far more street-friendly (in my application).

Our '02 wagon is in need of front shocks. I'm on the verge of purchasing another set of these adjustable Konis if I can't come up with anything else.

Thx.

Bilstein is the only way to go, Koni's are for Porsches and ricers. I have HD's on my coupe and Comforts on my wife's 300SD and we are both happy.
The best prices, good advice and service are from Phil, here on MBShop, if he can't get them, try Adsitco.

Adsitco is a bunch of crooks, don't buy anything from them. Instead use autopartsworld.com if you are considering adsit instead of phil, they have comforts for $50 and HD's for $63, free shipping. My shocks got here in 2 days.

I'm not sure what kind of experience you've had with Adsit. Of course, I've bought from Phil who is great that's why I always name him first. But I've also been using Performance Products and Adsit for probably 15 years and never had a bad experience with either one. From Adsit, I've purchased body side trim for my coupe, rebuilt Bosch alternators and starters, HD shocks and more (and my son got a used transmission for his SL from them) with very satisfactory outcomes on all. Crooks are a few of the dirt bags on Craig's List and eBay.

Which Bilsteins? None!

Monroe Sensa-tracs are available for your vehicle and work very well.

Monroe

"For a While"

The Bilsteins you'll be hard pressed to wear out in 125k miles.

I have run the sensatraks in the fleet vehicles for close to 10 years. These were about 1/4 sedans and 3/4 light trucks. Lifetime is in the 80k - 100k mile range.

I've just installed a set on the 300SD and the ride is exactly as expected - very smooth in light conditions but firms up when going over large bumps.

Are you sure that you did not have some other suspension problem? Your experience does not match the data.

Now throw a new set of Bilsteins on and be amazed.

Sach's are a good choice as well.
