I put a set of Bilstein HD's on my '99 E300 last fall and wish I had gone with the stock shocks. Handling is great on smooth roads and at speed on Interstates but very harsh - jarring even - on rough pavement. I may try putting standard shocks in the front, leaving the HD's in the back because of the 20 gallon veg tank in the trunk.

Try Boge

You may want to look into Boge similar to Bil comfort and generally same build quality just less $$ both Boge and Bil are OE providers to MB abd BMW

98 E300 w210 front shocks

I'm confused about which part number is which for the BILSTEIN front shocks.
I was told that the w0133-1608545 is the regular shock and the w0133-1608647 is the heavy duty. The fast lane has them labeled as the opposite but the price for the heavy duty (545) is less than the 647. Anyone know which is which?

Call phil with your vin and he'll help you sort it out. I put OEM bil's on my 240 and am quite pleased. I guess I got lucky, I bought them from adsitco, real cheap. The guy was so blunt as to be rude though, and I won't go back. The website order didn't list a shipping price at checkout. I called to ask the shipping cost and you'd have thought I was insulting the man's daughters. The price was good though, 24 bucks shipping for all 4 shocks.

Thumbs up

I just ordered the Bilstein HD from www.bimmerparts.com Chris recommended the HD and I had done plenty of reading on this site and had pretty much made up my mind to get those anyways.

I paid $68 each and will pick them up on Monday, they also offer shipping and are quick- I've had parts shipped from them before and in many cases its next day if ordered early enough.

I see Fastlane has them for $86.80 - nearly $20 more each

Zygmunt Motors (bimmerparts.com) is a German car shop in the same location for over 20 years, not only excellent prices but very knowledgable.

How much time or money does bimmerparts.com contribute to maintaining peachparts.com?

I don't know what you meant by the rolled eyes but please be sensitive to the folks who make this knowledge available for public consumption.

I agree with sixto !!

The least you can do is to let Phil quote on things. If he is well off the price thats ok. If he is close, then the extra couple of bucks is your contribution to the site. Most on here will agree that the tech help on here is worth big bucks to us all.

I ran Bilstein comforts to about 150,000 miles, then bought a new set of HD's.

Both were excellent, and I could scarcely notice any difference in road performance or ride comfort in either one. Noting my car is set up for high speed performance,, with eibach springs, lowered, and with OEM Penta AMG wheels and other AMG modifications, as a souped up gasser.

Over all these years, I have been supremely happy with Bilsteins, and would not consider any other shock absorber for the car.

I am pretty sure they have a lifetime guarantee, too.

DIY for replacing shocks help please

Hi-
I plan on buying Bilsteins from Fastlane for the front of my '83 300TD as soon as I find out what any bonus end of year check may be at work, but I have yet to find a DIY for the process with any pictures.
I did do multiple searches, but maybe I'm doing something wrong.
I see multiple comments on it being easy.
Is it simply raise the car, put on jack stands, remove wheels, and unbolt/bolt in, then reverse?
I need an estimate on how much time it may take, if possible.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
