IMHO you guys are right about the tires, to modern and aggressive for a W123. With a more subtle tread and look they would work perfectly.

Just my 2 cents, those are pretty good tires though, I'm sure it drives nicely.

I still think AMG anything looks good on MB's.

Okay, time to respond to these attacks. This is the second thread that I feel like I've been castrated.

These tires are less than half an inch longer than the total diameter of bundts with tires. They just don't round them off. No way would I go with a smaller diameter; this looks more period correct than skinny little tires.

Not my cup of tea. I like gray colored wheels over chrome or color.

Some W123s can pull it off nicely like your wagon, but a Petrol Green W123 with Pentas looks awkward for some reason. But to me, a grey or black W123 with the same rims would look good all day long. Go figure.

How can you say that Petrol Green is not menacing enough to have Pentas. You don't deserve such a rare, beautiful color. (It did take about 3 months for it to grow on me)

Nope, pulled them from a W126. The other Pentas I have are from a W201 and have the offset issue, but I think they will look fantastic on a W123. They kind of have a bundt like lip with a smaller spoke.

Pictured here:

It feels like a totally different car now. No more understeer, less noise on the highway, less body roll, and a much quieter ride. Whether you like the looks of them or not, it has completely transformed the driving characteristics from an austere yacht to a high performance skiff.

No doubt, I have been a big proponent of larger wheels and tires on these cars for years. I think the W126 was made for 16's, they really improve the way they drive. I'm sure the W123 is no different.

The stock tires have to much car to handle for what they are. 195's belong on a Civic or Jetta, not a heavy full size sedan. Do anything other than straight cruising and they just roll over and surrender to the car's mass. 215 or 225's are much more able to handle the heft of these cars.

For what it's worth, I wasn't attacking you. Just pointing out my observations. Maybe what I meant was, as Hattie mentioned, the tread pattern was too aggressive. Pentas are hard enough to find, I had a similar problem bolting on CLK lightweight wheels (16x7 ET37) on my 300D with the center caps not fitting flush, but had no problems with the same wheels on our 1990 300TE.

Just the same feeling I get when others mentioned they like the old look better when I switched from the round US DOT lights to the Euro square lights. I didn't consider them personal attacks, just a matter of opinion. What matters is you like them, as I do my Euro lights.

There is a smiley face at the end of that sentence for a reason.

I never thought that you guys were attacking me. I do believe that some of us with finer W123s are a bit of snobbery when analyzing other Benzes. I include myself in the list, but I know I'm behind you, Mbeige, and 79Mercy in the cherry department.

While I agree they could look better with more rounded tires, I believe this is a huge improvement from before. I would swap them in favor of 15" bundts, though.

Snobbery? Nah, just constructive criticism

It really is a huge improvement, I know because I went through the same transition from the stock 14" Bundts to the 15" Bundts. The ride is so much better in all aspects.

What was the first thread you felt castrated?

Apparently everything I did to improve Ol' Turbo was wrong in some way.

Wrong... Totally wrong. EVERYTHING you have done to it is wrong...

Actually man, it looks pretty good. I thinik 123s were made for 15" and 16" wheels. It dresses up the cars ALOT.

Now, to get my BBS RS wheels painted, and on my wagon.

Oh, and bigger wheels make a huge difference in automobile characteristics. They tighten it up, and make it better to drive.

"Penta's!!! They task me! They task me and I will have them!!"
I'll chase them 'round the moons of Nibia, and 'round the Antares maelstrom, and 'round Perdition's flames, before I give them up!"
Anyone.........[Tyler will get that one easily]

I for one am glad that folks are raring back and kicking a field goal with Tyler's Knaddage. It is a heated skewer to the eye every time I have to look at one of his MANY sets of Pentas then walk out to my suddenly vastly inferior wheeled fleet.
My white wagon suddenly screams for Pentas. The search is on.......

On another note, I think Ol' Turbo looks excellent with the Pentas and the tires. I like those aggressive looking tires and that goes against my usual opinions. When you see it on screen and it "works", not much else to say.
Just because Tyler makes it to Texas this weekend with those Pentas doesn't mean he'll make it out of the state with them......
