It all starts with a broken belt...

The A/C belt decided to break... Luckily the compressor is ok, as the belt popped with the ACC system turned off. I was going 75 on the interstate though.

Then it's all down hill...The broken belt ended up wrapping itself around the fan clutch shaft. Fann clutch appears to be ok, no lateral play. So, I decided to go ahead and replace all the belts, as they are getting old.

What a PITA to get the alternator to move toward the engine, with all bolts loosened. Pretty much need to remove all the alt bolts...

Found the coolant leak...the two inch connector hose on the t-stat housing was weeping...I did find a hose thatwill work, but it's $12 a foot. Gates part# 24046. I had to buy it for my Nissan P/U. The water pump has a similiar hook up.

New T-stat and gasket are on order, and I need to find some Zerex G05. AutoZoo stopped carrying it...They now sell a Prestone Gold colored "Universal" Anyone know if that stuff works? Pep Boys is not an option where I live.

That's all folks!

I saw the zerex stuff at a carquest a few days ago. On their website they indicate stores near you.

Try NAPA

I saw the Zerex at my local NAPA the last few times I was in there. NAPA seems to have started a push towards carrying more import parts recently.

NAPA would be good, but the store out here closed...there is a CarQuest though.

Carquest has it! It's close to my place of employment too!

Look at the glass half full! Thanks to the belt breaking, you now have all the other problems fixed and it wont fail in -40 degrees on a snowy day lol. Although.. do you get such awful weather down yonder??

Yeah, it's better find the issues "while you are at it". We do not get the -40, but we can have days not getting above freezing.

I used the prestone stuff on my last fill up.

I noticed that Autozoo has Rotella T (and the only place around that does).

glad it all worked out. small oil leaks I let go but coolant leaks always lead to trouble, maybe a lucky thing the belt forced you to get in there.

BTW, is Sierra coolant ok? I would think any propylene glycol is the same right?

Yeah and it's still not running. Sourcing correct alt belts is a PITA. They are all too freaking short. I am needing a local source since I need the car running tomorrow at the latest...oh well new t-stat and 2" hose is installed.

Oil/air separator now has the Winmutt RTV fix, and new rubber elbow is on the breather tube that connects to the air cleaner. The rubber on mine was like hard plastic.

BTW the inner diameter of the 2 in hose is 41mm. That gave a good snug fit before the clamps were installed.

Ok, the car is back on the road!!!! I ended up installing the freaking t-stat backwards. What a bonehead move. I thought the over heat problem was caused by not enough burping. The funny thing was, the car never hit the magical 120c. I guess a strong coldfront can be beneficial!

Now I get to drain and refill with the coolant mix...again.
