I May Have Fixed My Hammering Problem on Accident
For a while I have had a pretty not good hammering sound from my engine before it gets to operating temperature, when the engine was just off idle. I figured the problem was injector related and wanted to see if I could figure out which one was causing the problem. I started cracking the fuel lines and when I was on number five the noise went away. I tightened the line back up on the injector and now my hammering sound is gone. I am not for sure, but I feel like maybe the return nipples on the injector body were roughly parallel to the block and now the injector is turned slightly out of line with the block. I am wondering if maybe the injector or injector line was just a little too loose and I had an air leak causing my problem. What do you think?

Could be a nailing injector. It may have had an air pocket preventing a full fuel delivery.
Keep an eye on it. You may have to swap injectors w/#4 or #3 and see if it follows, in the event it starts the knocking again.

If it starts again you probably have an injector that is not spraying correctly.

If the injector nipples are in a different position after tightening the fuel line then the injector must have turned which means the injector was loose. If this is the case, torque the injector or take it to a shop and have it torqued.
Or did I misunderstand something? Paul

One side of me says I love it when something that was bothering me is fixed just from fiddling with it, but the other side really makes me wish I knew what was wrong. Either way, you feel better just because it works again.

If the injector was that loose the car would not run on that cylinder.

I am very glad it is running better, but I do wish I knew what the problem was. I need to find the pics I took of the engine when I was adjusting my valves. Then I could see if the injector had turned any. When I cracked the injector line there was a noticeable difference in how the engine ran. It was running very smoothly and when I cracked the line it got very rough. I am just wondering if things were just loose enough to cause a slight air leak as I was just giving it some throttle.

if anything, it seems in that case that fuel would be leaking OUT.
