Another update --- Hey, I'm in a good mood!

Here are my humble thoughts --- DUDE!!...wake up, your brother is so trying to set you up! His E320 wil flat out dog, the Bavarian E34 with M20 power! Don't let him suck you in....Hang with the 126-it'll be one of the best decisions you'll ever make.

Now, my friend - here's an option for you ---- If your brother "really",wants to 'touch it up' with an E34 or maybe even an E28 - let me know! I'm here for ya...

OK, I thought about it, --- You seem like a nice guy from a nice family, so here's what I'm gonna do...Now I don't do this for everybody--so keep this just between us....But it's Christmas!, right? ---

I feel like your brother should have a fair chance in his wish to race---- I offered to help with either an E34 or E28...So, with having the Holiday spirit --- I'd even be willing to drop down, and let him 'touch it up' with a much smaller car - The E30! That may make him feel better, and more like a man!

I've attached a couple of simple pictures you can show your brother and see if he's really interested....The tread on the tires is minimal and very worn on the outer edges, the interior is very basic and rough, no radio, no heat or air, the hood latch doesn't even work properly! had to do the Frankenstein thing with a couple of bolts to keep the hood from flying up and off....It doesn't even have a back seat and if it rains you get wet because the side windows are missing -- can you imagine, a car without a back seat and side glass ----

I don't know, but I'm sure his E320 has lots of bells and whistles, and other neat stuff... - check it out and let me know what he wants to do....

JUST having some fun with your situation --- hope your laughing, and enjoy it as much as I do ---- Keep the 126, and if you and your family are ever in North Carolina, let us know as I'd be happy arrange for touch and feel of the attached E30.

PS...tell your brother I'm a true blue Tarheel -"TAR-HEEL". Charles Cornwallis (British General and Statesman) said it best, and I quote: "We can not get these boys from North Carolina to back down, It's like they have TAR, on their HEELS!" And we only race for pinks!

Dont sell it man. You will regret it.

My dad still regrets selling his 83 300D. He bought it new, and drove that thing everywhere.

As for the BMW, E34s are only fun with a S50/S52 swap, where it involves either one or two massive Holset turbos. 525s are super boring. While the M20 is a good motor, its better suited to the E30 chassis. Well, E34 M5s are cool, but it still requires twin turbos to be a fun car to drive.

I have an E30, and its loads more fun to drive than the W124. (Both are modded.) However the E30 feels like a tin can compared to even the 124.

You are correct --- the 50/52 series whether M or S class is way strong for the E30! Depends on what you want to do ---- The stock M50 makes for an amazing ride.

So truely loving our diesels as we do, or the occasional stepping over to our gasser's -- it's all a rush, and it's all good!

Especially when we get older - with more driving experience and nerve, having better insurance coverage along with the right traffic attorney ...I'll take on the hottest and fastest now days ----- I can't out run very many in my W126, but I 'guaran-dam-tee' you -- I can out drive em!! Just ask my son and his buddies ------ I think it's one of the few times we dads of teenagers, make our sons proud, and not embarrassed!

Diesel on , Garth....

Wow you really brought a serious E30 71inka02, the E320 is plain vanilla (stock), hell it has a key problem i can bet it now but when it's started hmm.... oh yeah my dad will sell his car for 8K which no one wants to buy it at that price because it looks too rough for that price, even though if he sells his car i will tell him "i think i ll keep it, no matter what"

Hello Actros617,

I checked out your profile, and just wanted to take a minute to let you know, I very sincerely think it's totally cool that, you being a teenager have an obvious passion for the MBDiesels of old, and your brother a passion for his E320.

I have two sons, ages 19 and 21 -- while they think my W123 is ugly...my W126 is,,,sort of cool. They do ask to borrow for an occasional road trip, or when it's their night to drive their friends to the movie, party - or where ever they really go Teenagers --- I give up!

I just wanted to take a minute and say, thank-you and we rev our Diesels in honor of young men like you --- hats off to you, and thanks for helping lead the charge of the next generation of 'us' - guys that love these cars!

Have you ever watched the show, "Car Crazy" - it's on the speed channel. At the end of each show, Berry Meguiar reads a letter from someone that's "Car Crazy" -- people write in to express their passion and love of cars, particular makes and models - or maybe the first car they owned and the passion they developed for it, and still have in later years of their life.

You should think about writing Mr. Meguiar - tell him your story and passion for your W126 and the passion your family has for these cars - They're classics and great machines --- Sounds to me like you fit the requirement that Meguiars looks for, in finding "Car Crazy" people of all ages!!

**And to our fellow members --- If you too appreciate the younger ones like Actros617, speak up and let them know it. Young ones today need words of encouragement, they're pulled in many differant directions and we, as parents and older ones only a short window of time to do our part in helping them choose a good course in life...and we all appreciate an occasional pat on the back!

NOW -- do you know how foolish I'll feel, if I'm the only member that's not a teenager....WOW - that could be sad!!!

Nope I just turned 64 in Oct. and while i do not own a dieselat this point in time(dates me right?), I did have a 300SD that I traded for my '84 Euro 500 SEC. I loved that car and I will have another diesel one day. I hoipe to leave my MB's to my Grand nephew and i hope he will learn to love them like his Great Uncle does. He's 4 so i have a few years to play with "HIS" cars. LOL

Glad to see the younger guys and gals getting a lot out of these cars and loving them like us "Old Geezer's" do.

Actros617
My hat is off to you and the younger guys and gals on this forum. Stick to your guns and keep your car, at least until you can find a better one.

Actros617,
I am a fellow Oklahoma 300sd owner and we have to stick together!
Don't sell your Merc. It is obvious from your posts now and in the past that you love the car. That is enough reason to keep it.
I do appreciate your feeling for old Merc diesels. Though I am long past my teen years I would be glad to lend a hand if you need one for repairs or just bs if you want to.

Don't sell it buddy. Don't sell the Diesel.

Oh, a quick aside, 71inka02. My God man! That thing is gorgeous. I am drooling. If you ever sell that thing call me, I will gladly buy it. Holy canoli.

Anyway. My wife and I are in our mid-twenties and we bought our first car when we were still in college and we told them it was diesel and they flipped. They said we would be so unhappy with it and we were throwing our money down the drain. Well, we have 90K on our 04 Golf and have had zero problems with it. Their 04 Hyaundai? I'm not telling tales out of school when I say that it spends more time at the shop than a fat kid at a Dairy Queen. I bought my first MB, a 190D about 3 months ago, which they were opposed to as well. The battery died on it last week and I replaced it. My dad came out into the garage (yes, I'm 26 and live with my parents...) and said, "See!? You might as well sell it and buy something good."

My point to the story, Parents don't always know best. I am a parent of a two year old, and damn, I know that I'm going to say some stupid stuff to him when he gets older. I keep telling him to brace himself for it, but the little kid just doesn't listen to me. He just plays with his blocks or trains. I guess that's a sign of what's to come huh? Man, fatherhood's rough.

Anyway, It's your car. Don't sell it. Tell them, if they want you to drive a Bimmer or a Volvo, they should buy it for you.

If I may offer advice to you...first of all, it sounds like you're off to an excellent start --- You're talking to him! Don't know that they'll ever listen...but you gotta talk.

And about those blocks or trains..yep a great start, except you need to be in the floor playing with those blocks and trains too --- right beside him.

And yes, fatherhood can be rough - lots of laughter and smiles, and then some sad times also ---- but wow, it's a blast!!

Let's keep this going for our 'yooots' -

I have to play him as well!? Crap man. I thought turning on Spongebob was enough...

Just kidding. I'm usually on the ground with him building things with legos, playing with our toy cars (I'm trying to get him to make the sound like a diesel...He's close) Once he gets a little older, he's going to be in the garage with me, wrench in hand, he just doesn't have the attention span yet. Although he has sat on his chair and watched me.

Anyway, my wife and I are building him a train play table to make playtime a little closer to our height...

It's so cute when we go outside he looks at my car and points and says "Daddy." We were down the dealer on Saturday, and I was trying to teach him "AMG" He loved looking at the new Benz's and Audi's and VW's.

Fear not everybody he is going to be a lover of the diesel as well. Fear not.

Thx for the advice you have made me not to sell my benz i can see your past experiences of selling your beloved diesel benz has been remorseful, by the way the odds of coming across another SD in my state is rare ppl seem to like their 300SD in the OK state. The final decision, SHE'S STAYING UNTIL IT DIES which i will resurrect if it ever dose. I dont know about you but it seem that people tend to bond with their benz am i the only one here have that feeling of "I JUST CAN'T LET IT GO, I JUST CAN'T LET THAT BABY GO TO AN IGNORANT IDIOT THAT DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE CAR, THAT I TAKEN SOO MUCH CARE OF" I have that feeling every time i think of selling it....

Hmm...maybe a young benz club would be a great club for the young time benzers
