Question Slow oil leakage from front of car.....

I have had annoying and driveway staining oil leakage from front of car on and off now since I've owned my 82 240D......

It appeared to be coming from the oil pan plug more times than not....I have just swapped out old oil pan for new one with new plug.....nevertheless, is there something I should be doing after oil changes to insure that there is NO leakage from the pan plug?

I'm told that there are copper washers that should be placed onto plug after each and every oil change to eliminate leaks from this source....I am unable to locate these washers online after several searches.....

Does this sound draconian or is there a source for these washers/rings or another item that will do the trick? Thanks.

The washers should come with the new oil filter.

thanks....as I bring my car to an oil change place in town, I don't always look to see if they make the effort to place these washers on the plug.....better do so in the future...

Parts stores typically carry drain plug seals.

Oil Change places seem to have a good record of stripping the threads on the drain bolts. You might want to do next Oil change yourself and see if the threads are OK.

Try *************** part # rsc12x16 they cost $0.10 each.
Or as mentioned, any copper washer that measures 12mm x 16mm x 1.5mm.

Yep....that's what happened with the old oil pan plug...successive trips to the same oil change place in town WORE DOWN/STRIPPED the screw plug and I had to replace the whole unit.....quick and cheap but they don't baby these cars and you end up with stripped plugs......

USE CAUTION and WATCH OIL CHANGE GUYS to insure they're not screaming the bolt back in with a pneumatic drill....will cause all sorts of problems down the road....

Stay out of those quickie oil changers. I think there is a horror story floating around about Jiffy lube.

these $5.00 an hour lube jocky`s could car less about your car.

Change the oil your self, not a big deal to do. I use a large 12 qt plastic drain pan, then dump it into a 2 1/2 gallon jug and take it to a recycling place. some auto supply`s take it or as here our dump.

I use Mann filters, and they come with a new copper washer and rubber O-ring for the filter lid.

Do not over tighten the 2 nuts on the filter lid.

Use a good quality synthetic oil since you live in the deep freeze will help.

DIY, or they will DITY (do it to you)
